Sharp reduction in maintenance costs

In 2013, the Nonnebanken housing association in Herfølge, Denmark replaced 3,200 square metres of traditional wooden cladding with Steni’ façade panels. This has resulted in significantly lower maintenance costs, less graffiti and stable rent.

“The ongoing maintenance of the cladding was a major expense for us, and replacing it with Steni façade panels resulted in significant savings, allowing us to keep the rent at the same level in the last three years. At the same time, we have also saved many hours of work since we no longer have to spend much time removing graffiti, for example. Now, we can remove it from the panels in a snap, which has actually made it less interesting to spray our walls with graffiti – so nobody bothers any more,” says Torben Nielsen, Property Manager at Nonnebanken.

Flats, sheds and stairs
Nonnebanken consists of 25 blocks of flats, with 37 free standing storage sheds and 28 stair towers. Previously, they painted the cladding every three years, but since the wood wasn’t pressure treated, it eventually began to rot. So the housing association decided to investigate alternative materials.

“We tested a variety of panel solutions, and a number of people recommended Steni’s Colour façade panels. They seemed solid and different from the others we had tested. They were also easy to clean,” says Torben Nielsen.

Now, almost five years after it was put up, the façade is still just as nice, and for us, Steni’s façade panels have been a good investment. Switching from wooden cladding to Steni façade panels has saved us over DKK 200,000 on annual maintenance. Torben Nielsen

Pre-cut
So they chose to replace Nonnebanken’s wooden cladding with Steni Colour façade panels. Putting them up was quick and easy since the panels arrived pre-cut from the factory. This meant that the builders spent a minimum of time adjusting the façade panels on the construction site.

Significant savings
Replacing the cladding has saved the housing association over DKK 200,000 on annual maintenance. Nonnebanken has long since earned back their investment in the new façade panels, which has in turn meant no increase in rent for the residents – for three years running!

“Now, almost five years after it was put up, the façade is still just as nice, and for us, Steni’s façade panels have been a good investment. Durability, and the fact that the façade panels are maintenance-free, make Steni’s façade panels simply a great product – and I always tell my colleagues,” says Torben Nielsen.
